your first time 101
i know it can feel really overwhelming if you’re new to pilates. trying new things can be scary. but honestly it’s not at all! nobody else in class cares about whether or not your form is perfect, let alone is even looking at you. it’s best to let all that worry go and come prepared for your first class or private session.
first things first: you need a pair or grip socks, especially for the reformer. it’s for your safety so you’re not slipping around and for hygiene. if you forgot yours, i have a limited number of pairs in studio for you to purchase but my favorites are these and these.
now that you have your socks, great! it’s time for class. if you’re joining a group mat class, all you need is yourself, a yoga mat, and maybe a water bottle to stay hydrated.
secondly: During class, try to listen to the instructor and follow the movements as best you can. It's perfectly normal for beginners to not get all of the Pilates methods and terminology right away. Don't worry about being confused—just try your best, ask questions when you need to, and remember to have fun!
next up: you worked really hard and did a great job! you’ll probably be sore after your first session which is totally normal! be sure to drink plenty of water to help your muscles recover.
lastly: keep it up! The more sessions you take, the easier everything will become. having a regular pilates practice is the key to seeing results. joseph pilates said it himself: “In 10 sessions you will feel the difference, in 20 you will see the difference, and in 30 you'll have a whole new body.”
